ABOUT OUR ANIMALS ON THE FARM:
All of our poultry are free-range during daylight hours and are locked up safe and secure in their coop at night. They also share the 4-acre fenced-in pasture with our llama, Empire, who provides extra protection to the flock. We have several breeds of chickens that lay a range of egg colors from white to chocolate brown to green. Every dozen of our eggs for sale will include this variety of colors. We also raise Cornish Cross meat chickens, Cornish Game Hens and Red Ranger meat chickens. All the meat chickens are pasture raised. We hatch our own chickens as well to provide new layers to the flock. Hatching eggs are available for sale as well as day old chicks or started pullets/cockerels.
Our pigs are also two types of Heritage breed, names Ossabaw Island and Mangalista, these pigs are known for great pork. The Mangalista is one of the oldest European breeds, that in the beginning were reserved for Habsburg Royalty. These pigs take 18 months to mature to market weight. Available to you today, both of these breeds of pigs are raised with free range pasture, non- gmo feed, and live very happy lives which brings out the best flavor possible!
We raise Heritage turkeys at Flying W Farm. The breeds we raise are Bourbon Red, Black Spanish and Chocolate. Heritage turkeys have a much richer flavor than the Broad-Breasted turkeys. While the breast is smaller, the taste is unbelievably better. Heritage breeds take longer to grow to market weight (28 weeks vs 14-18 weeks), mate naturally and have a long, productive outdoor lifespan. They enjoy spending their days roaming the pasture, flying into trees and eating as many bugs as they can find. The eggs make a delicious, fluffy omelet too! We also have hatching eggs and day old poults for sale during laying season. For those of you looking for a larger turkey with more white meat, we also raise Broad-Breasted White turkeys.
Something not seen in this area before, our Heritage breed beef cattle are raised in the same high standards as the rest of the animals on our farm. These breeds of cattle were cultivated over hundreds of years to bring about what we believe to be some of the best tasting meat there is! These breeds take 3 years to mature to market weight. Raised with free range pasture, no hormones, no preservatives, and non-gmo feed, we think you will agree!
Our dairy barn consists of 8 Nigerian dwarf goats, 2 lamancha goats, 5 miniature jersey cows, bunnies, mini potbelly pig, 2 miniature donkeys, and a llama! Our dairy animals are very loved and spoiled. They are all fed Non-GMO feed, and have free access to green pastures and hay, then they provide us with milk, used for the farm and in Taytay's Soaps, companionship, and endless entertainment as they go about their day. Each animal has distinct personalities, quirks, and preferences for which they are loved!
8 horses make up the Flying W Herd. Sig, Tick, Chico, Catori, Hoss, Isaac, Buckshot and Pepper are a wonderful little group of mismatched horses that make a great family. Isaac and Buckshot are currently in training, and hopefully by the end of the summer Sig will know how to pull carts!
